Henry Ward Beecher (1813-1887) Henry Ward Beecher was a liberal U.S. Congregational minister whose oratorical skill and social concern made him one of the most influential Protestant spokesmen of his time. He was the pastor of the Plymouth Church in Brooklyn, New York. He was a fierce opponent of slavery and a proponent of women's rights.
