Col. Richard Redd was one of six brothers who served in the Confederate Army. Each of them were well known in Lexington, KY with probably Richard being the best known.

Redd, Richard Menifee - Lexington, Ky. - Born in Fayette County, Ky. Entered Confederate Service summer of 1862 in Lafayette County, Mo. Private Company A, Shelby's Old Company, Gordon's Missouri Cavalry Regiment. Gen. John S. Marmaduke's escort; in all fights of Shelby's Command up to and after the Battle of Helena, Ark., July 4th, 1863. Discharged fall of 1863 on account of disability; on crutches over two years. Member John C. Breckenridge Camp No. 100, Lexington, Ky. Stock dealer.
