CDV SIZE; Edwin Forrest (1806-1872) Edwin Forrest is an actor who at the age of 20 appeared as Othello in New York with great success. He had favorable seasons in London as well, but in 1845 his Macbeth was hissed by the audience. This prompted him to hiss William Macready's performance in Edinburgh, destroying his reputation in Great Britain. The hissing of Macready's Macbeth by Forrest's sympathizers in New York in 1849 led to a riot which cost 22 lives.
