Measures 3 1/2" in length including the RWB ribbon. The drop shows "Liberty and Prosperity" in the center. On the reverse along the edge it reads "Co. C 21st Regt. N.J.S. Vols Army of the Potomac, 1862-3". In the center it reads "Presented to John Burke By the Citizens of Bergen, Bayonne and Greenville".

Residence was not listed; Enlisted on 8/28/1862 as a Private. On 9/15/1862 he mustered into "C" Co. NJ 21st Infantry He was Mustered Out on 6/19/1863 at Trenton, NJ
The regiment did participate in the Battle of Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville. During its service the regiment lost 21 men killed or mortally wounded and 31 by disease.
