NICE PIECE FROM THE 1909 ON THE OCCASION OF THE DEDICATION OF THE PENNSLVANIA MONUMENT AT PETERSBURG ~ PRESIDENT TAFT ATTENDED THIS HISTORIC EVENT ~ CARD MEASURES 4 1/4" X 7" ~ TABLE NUMBER AND SEAT NUMBER INKED AT TOP OF CARD ~ THIS PARTICULAR CARD WAS GIVEN TO A MEMBER OF THE ENTERTAINMENT COMMITTEE, AS INDICATED BY THE CELLULOID BADGE PINNED AT TOP ~ BULLET ONCE HUNG FROM CELLULOID AS WELL ~ SECOND CARD LISTS THE MENU ~
President William Howard Taft visited Petersburg on May 19 for the dedication of the Pennsylvania Monument commemorating the miners in the Union Army that dug the tunnel and set the charge that started the "Battle of the Crater." Taft luncheoned at Centre Hill Mansion with local dignitaries.
