Presidential Land Grant issued in 1859 during the administration of James Buchanan , signed by a secretary. These "Homestead Certificates" were actually signed by American presidents up until around Andrew Jackson's second term as president, when he turned the authority over to secretaries. Hence most land grants from subsequent presidents are secretarial-signed, as is ours.
